Golddigging excursion to Laanioja - 3,5 hours
Laanioja is located next to Saariselkä holiday resort. At the beginning of the 20th century, several gold prospecting companies were established around that area.
The signs of mining activity that are still visible in Laanila area were left by industrial enterprises, such as Prospektor and the Kerkelä mining company in the first decade of the 20th century, Lapin Kulta Oy and Ivalojoki Oy in the 1920´s and some foreign companies in the 1930´s.
This excursion you will do on your own but with our help. You go (walk, bike or drive+walk) to the gold claim yourself but we will give you a map and instructions how to get there.
On the claim there are again people who will guide you. If you want you can book a private guide for the whole excursion. You may choose either 3,5 hours or 4-7 hours stay on the claim.
The owner of the claim will welcome you upon your arrival and tell you at the beginning shortly about the geology and the gold history of the area. After that he will teach you in gold digging,
sluicing and goldpanning. He will give you all necessary equipment and you may work further on your own. During your stay you will be invited for a cup of coffee/tea with pancake and jam.
And finally you are allowed to keep all the gold you find. Very seldom clients have left the claim without gold.
